Duo
Mariana Zwarg and Johannes von Ballestrem are two artists coming from quite different worlds: She is a flutist from Rio de Janeiro and goddaughter of the legendary Hermeto Pascoal, whose tradition she carries on.
He is a Berlin pianist working in a wide variety of styles and has appeared with jazz greats like Kurt Rosenwinkel and Greg Cohen.
Duo
In the last years they have appeared internationally with Mariana’s larger band,Sexteto Universal, playing festivals and clubs such as XJAZZ Festival (Berlin), Pori Jazz Festival(Finland), Sunset/Sunside (Paris) and SESC Instrumental (São Paulo).
As a duo, they have been active since 2020. Merging influences from both their worlds,Brazilian music as well as jazz and improvisation, they have developed a very personal andunique language.
Their debut album Tightrope Dancer will bereleased in the fall of 2023 onthe Brazilian labelscubidu
